One could guess that names like Beef Curtains, Corrupted,
FC7 RM23, 78 Bandit, Kickinoutyo, or even Old Mopar will never become mainstream, they are in fact screen names
that members of The Diecast Pub have come to know as skilled
craftsman when performing mods on their scale die cast model cars.

These members along with other such as RamJet, Felipe R, 2L8IWON,

their talents performing modifications to a 1993 1:18 scale Steeda
Mustang which was offered to DCP members at a special discount price
from GMP.
Class winners received a 1:6 Scale Ferrari SWB engine with a retail

In
1901, 21 year-old William S. Harley drew up a blueprint of a
single-cylinder engine designed to fit into a bicycle frame. For the
next two years Harley and boyhood friend Arthur Davidson labored in a
crude 10 x 15-foot wooden shed in the Davidson backyard, with the words
HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY scrawled on the door. In 1903 the first
production Harley-Davidson motorcycles debuted, and in a few short
years that backyard shed would be left behind, as the Harley-Davidson
Motor Company would grow beyond the founders' dreams.

	Today,
that humble backyard shed is long gone, but the dream remains. Built as
a racer, evolving into a workingman's mode of transport, the
Harley-Davidson motorcycle has become an American icon, 105 years
strong. In 2008, Harley-Davidson will celebrate their 105th
anniversary; this high-quality die-cast metal collectible is a 1:12
scale replica of limited-edition motorcycles Harley-Davidson will
produce in honor of this milestone. Often imitated, never quite
duplicated, always admired, ever timeless: Harley-Davidson.

Built in 1964 by legendary engine builder Keith Black, painted blue
metallic by Joe Anderson, it debuted at the famous Lion's Drag Strip
with Leong at the wheel. After crashing on his first pass, Don
Prudhomme was brought on the team as the new driver. Leong and
Prudhomme won the NHRA Winternationals in 1965, and went on tour
winning almost every race they entered, including important wins at
Pomona and Indy. The following year, Mike Snively drove the Hawaiian to
victory AGAIN at Pomona and Indy.... two of the biggest races of the
year, won two years in a row by two different drivers... a record yet
to be duplicated!
The Featured model this week at the Diecast Pub comes from Supercar Collectibles.
A 1934 custom Ford Pickup finished in Green with Yellow accents. This
tricked out little gem features removeable tonnue cover, 4 wheel disc
brakes, custom tail lights, chrome wheels complete with knockoffs
and even the door handles have been removed for that extra clean look.

Manufactured by Yat Ming and marketed under the Road Legends logo
this beautiful 34 is part of the "Shyne Rodz" Collection.

Featuring a fully wired custom V8 engine
which has been topped off with a chromed blower and custom air cleaner,
this big horsepower V-8 really sets off this 34 hauler. Interior
features include, custom steering wheel, gauges and shifter.

What
I found most striking about our featured model has to be the overall
stance. Road Legends did a very nice job in capturing the raked
appearance so often found on these early rods.
Featuring
1948's innovative "step down" body design which lowered the center of
gravity and gave superior handling, the 1952 Hudson Hornet Club Coupe
was a serious performance car in its time. The famed "Twin H" engine
with its twin carburetors and a single intake manifold was introduced
as a factory-installed option in 1952, and costed just $85.60. The
Hornet also offered the industry's biggest six-cylinder for 1952, the
308 cu. in. (505cc).

	A
dealer-installed high performance 7-X engine was also available in the
Hornet for $385.00. Offering a bored .40 over engine, larger intake and
exhaust valves, and three differentl camshaft options, the big six was
able to generate over 200 horsepower. Additionally, many of these cars
were fitted with "severe usage" or heavy-duty components. This Hudson
parts package (# 30395) was designed for use in Police Crusiers and for
high-altitude applications, but many were used for racing. These race
Hudsons dominated the stock car circuit through 1954, winning 31 of 35
starts in 1953 alone. Unfortunately, by then Hudson as a marque had but
three years left of existence.

One of the great joys I find whenever I receive a new die cast model is
researching the history behind the real life size vehicle that it
represents. Maybe it is just a pet peeve but I feel this should be a
mandatory requirement that is included on all models. Providing a
potential collector with a small bit of history should be a no-brainer
and one that is sadly lacking on most entry-level models today.

For several years now, Paul (CarNutty) has been helping
Bill and I at the GTO car show (first working the show, and then
helping us set up and sell out of our trailer).

While at one of these
shows, Paul spotted a beautiful Red Judge Convertible and has not
stopped thinking about it since. Many times while in our store, he
would pick up the GTO book that had a red (with red interior) Judge
convertible on the cover, come over to us (while pointing at the Judge)
and say “I want THIS in a diecast!” If you have been reading the board
here, you probably noticed Paul’s many “subtle” hints to GMP that he
wanted them to do a 1970 GTO Judge convertible in RED (with red
interior)...

Collectors may be amazed to find out how far a Georgia Diecast
manufacture will go to show there appreciation to a loyal customer.

The Definitive Car Care guide - PT1

<span ;="" style="" old="" bookman="">So why do we collect cars? Many of us
are helpless car nuts that just love the automobile. Some collect all makes and
models whereas others collect specific marques or cars from a certain era.
Collecting gives us personal satisfaction. Our little cars may remind us of a
time when life was simpler or of a special event in our lives. The bottom line
is that we collect because we love to. OK, so we now have a small fortune invested
in a collection of little cars. We never miss an opportunity to proudly show
off our collection of cars to friends and relatives. So how do YOU take care of
them? In my experience, I’ve seen the gamut of display and care techniques.
Cars displayed in dust free, climate controlled environments to the dusty
office of a body shop. I’ve seen people who buy a model and then never touch it
once they put it up in their garage workshop. Then there is the guy who pulls
the model off the shelf once a month just to sit down and admire the details
and workmanship. Sometimes, getting lost in the mystique of the car that the
model represents it what collecting is all about. With a little bit of care and
some responsible display techniques, these models can last a long time. In this
article I hope to cover most of the topics that people have asked me in
letters, phone calls, emails and in person. Topics to be covered will include:
identifying paint problems, basic and advanced care, minor repairs, cosmetic
touch up and display options.

So here is the newest entry of Shelby Mustang from the Franklin Mint stables, the 1966 Shelby GT-350H.

First,
let me say that this is a fantastic rendition of the famed Hertz
Rent-a-racer. FM got the body lines right and under the hood is a work
of art in miniature.

So
exactly what is the meaning of Camaro? Is it really a word in the
French lexicon for “friend” or “companion”, or are the “shrimp-like
creature” or “loose bowels” translations more accurate? Ask a product
manager who worked for Chevrolet in the late sixties and they’d tell
you it was a small, vicious animal that likes to eat Mustangs, a
description that was more befitting of the “Panther” or “Wildcat”
monikers that were early considerations for Chevy’s new F-body.
