Firstly I hope I’m on the right forum for this. Anyway, because I’m going to buy the future release, the 1/6th. 1957 Corvette by Highway 61. I’ve decided to collect all scales possible for this car. Already have the 1:18 and have on order the 1:24, 1:43, 1:64 and 1:87. Now here is where the question comes in, I searched e-Bay and I’m a little confused about the scales.

Here is what I found:
1:32—by Summer
1:34—by Sunnyside
1:38—by Welly
1:39—by Maisto

Are the above right (the scales just look too close) and is there more that I should be in pursuit of?????

Thank You in Advance

I ended up buying the 1956 by Action in 1:32 and the car is virtually the same as the 1957. The other scales in the 1:30’s are just off beats I guess! All that is left is the 1956 Corvette by Danbury Mint in 1:12th. ( costly though ). Then it’s just save my pennies 4 the BIG boy!!!!

Wow, you'll have a heck of an impressive Fifties Vette collection if you get that 1:12th by DM. And if you get all those pennies (LOTS of pennies) together for that 1:6 scale one ..... look out ! cool.gif

Pete,
That will be a cool set up.

Franklin Mint makes a 57 Corvette in 1/24. Back in the eighties Revell made a 1/87 scale (HO) Corvette that I think was a 1957. AMT Ertl also make it in a 1/25 plastic kit. Then if you want to get Real serious, Ertl made a 1957 Cast aluminum pedal car back around 57/58. Joe Ertl has one in his collection and that is the only one I have ever seen. I'm sure it will be expensive if you find one, but let me know if you do.

Good Luck,
Tom

Yes Tom, that would be nice to have, but I think Pedal Car collecting is in a league of itself. Anyway here is a picture (poor quality) of what I’ve got so far from 1:18 to 1:87. Will be looking for the 1:12th. and not sure if I’ll get the scales that fall between all of these.

Attached File  Corvette_set_3.jpg (175.87K)
Number of downloads: 11 PS. sorry, the third car is 1:32 scale.

The second picture shows the 1:87 with a much smaller car that is not diecast, but plastic. The cars shape seems to be out of whack, but what scale would it be, any guess??

I think Pedal Car collecting is in a league of itself.

I think when you see how big that 1/6 scale one is.........the pedal car size won't be much of a leap...... tongue.gif

I would say the smaller one is 1/144 scale. Racing Champions did some NASCAR ans Drag cars in that scale and I think Micro Machines was about the same scale.

The odd scales that you see are governed by the shipping case. In other words, many companies, especially those that produce medium to lower detail diecast, go for a universal sized box that will allow a maximum number of boxes into one shipping box.

Maisto does this alot in the 1/24th scale. Although that is the scale they shoot for, many of the diecast cars and trucks are of a smaller scale so the same sized shipping box can be used. That shipping box is calculated to fit a maximum number into a Container for the overseas trip across the water. This is why you see items from them that come out in scales from 1/24th to 1/27th, 1/30th, 1/32, 1/34 and a host of other odd scales. It seems that shipping costs mean more than sticking to one scale regardless of the collectors needs.

This is not to say that the companies doing this do not care about the collector of 1/24th scale...just that keeping costs down is a priority. Each car has certain body dimensions in one scale that speaks to having a larger box if needed and that costs more money to reengineer the box, then the shipping box and so on. With the way that labor laws are now, each shipping box can only weigh up to a certain amount to minimize injury. So it is safer and cheaper for many of these companies to just keep the display box, shipping box and so on to a minimum so the maximum effieciency of the container can be met.

Thanks Brian, this must be very frustrating for those that would collect a single model year car.
