It’s my honor and pleasure to congratulate GMP for winning the 2006 Diecast Pub Car of the Year. Last year, the Authentics 1967 Impala SS427 dominated COTY from start to finish and GMP took it up a notch this year with their awesome 1970 Road Runner/GTX mold. Like the Impala, GMP’s 1970 Road Runner & GTX combined to earn more than twice the amount of nominations bestowed on the 2nd most nominated model. In the final voting round, these high detail Plymouth B-bodies took a whopping 58% of the votes.

We not only had a great winner this year, but we had a great top 5 to choose from. Everything from the middle of the road to the top end from some of the best in the business, including RC2, Highway 61, GMP, and Supercar Collectibles. Street cars, drag cars, custom cars, Fords, Mopars, Chevy’s, all represented in the top 5, arguably our best top 5 ever. In truth, the top 10 was quite impressive. The back half included such models as GMP’s 1970 GTO convertible in Cardinal Red, the Highway 61 1957 Oldsmobile, the Precision Miniatures Fiat Topolino Mondello, Yat Ming’s 1964 Ford Falcon, and the Precision Minatures 1933 Willy’s.

There were other great models nominated like CMC’s Maserati Bird Cage, the Yat Ming 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, GMP’s 1970 GTO Humbler, the AutoArt 2007 Shelby GT500 Concept car, Lane’s 1967 Shelby GT500, Greenlight Collectibles 1968 Mustang GT/CS, and many, many others. It goes to show that 2006 was a great year for collectors and from what I’ve seen and heard so far, 2007 is shaping up to be even better.

I truly appreciate all the members here that have shown their support for COTY over the years with their continued participation. Without you guys, there would be no COTY. I know there has been some debate as to how COTY should be run, and as always, I’ve run it how the majority of the members want to see it run. I think the system we have in place now is great, but to be fair, I’m planning to poll the members of the Pub at some point this year to see if we need to change the structure of COTY for 2007. I’m also hoping to bring on at least 2 or 3 Pub members to help with the COTY duties next year as well as offer input on the rules, etc.

As for the COTY drawing, I’ve already drawn the names of the 5 winners. As soon as I have the list of available prizes lined up, I’ll post the winners. I’m hoping to have this information ready to post by the end of this week at the latest.

As always, stay tuned for more. Thanks guys!!

Congrats to all the gang at GMP. The mold is certainly deserving and the company behind it is always a pleasure to deal with.

Should be interesting to see what 2007 holds for the market. RC2's '66 Chevelle and '71 Charger are sure to be top contenders but we don't know what Lane Exact Detail, GMP, Highway 61 and Precision Miniatures (to name a few) have up their collective sleeves.
